A Breath of Scandal is a Michael Curtiz film released in 1960 and full of twists and turns. Princess Olympia (Sophia Loren) is an old-world princess who enjoys her current status in life but does not know how to privately tame her sexual desire for others. She finds herself exiled, living in the country, and falling madly in love with an American industrialist millionaire in Charlie Foster (John Gavin). Although she is in love, she is bound by an arranged marriage to Prince Ruprecht (Carlo Hinterman) of Prussia. Riddled with jealousy and anger, Princess Olympia's long time rival Countess Lina (Angela Lansbury) cannot continue to sit idly by and devises a plan to bring the entire scandal to light. In danger of losing everything, Princess Olympia, with the help of her father Prince Philip (Maurice Chevalier), must find a way not to lose her true love and keep the scandal out of the air.
