A Bronx Tale, Robert DeNiro's directorial debut, is the story of Calogero (Francis Capra) as he witnesses a murder by a mafia boss. When questioned by the police about the murder, Calogero stays quiet, earning the respect of mob boss Sonny (Chazz Palminteri). Calogero's father, Lorenzo (Robert DeNiro) forbids him from ever seeing Sonny again, but eight years later we find Calogero even more closely tied to the mafia. When Calogero gets wrapped up in an attempted murder of Sonny, the mafia is sent to assassinate him. Recognizing that he was not the attempted assassin, Sonny comes to Calogero's rescue, and when Calogero goes to thank him, it is already too late. Released in 1993, A Bronx Tale also stars Lillo Brancato, Jr., Taral Hicks, Kathrine Narducci, Clem Caserta, Alfred Sauchelli Jr. and Joe Pesci. A Bronx Tale was well received by critics, earning especially high-marks for the multi-faceted performances from the film's stars.
