A Cold Wind in August is a 1961 black-and-white independent drama from director Alexander Singer. The movie is based on novel by Burton Wohl with the same title. Iris Hartford (Lola Albright) is lonely 30-something stripper who makes her living working in New York's burlesque clubs. One day in the middle of summer, the air conditioner in her apartment breaks down. Iris calls the building's superintendent, Joe DeSantis (Papa Perugino), and asks to have it repaired. Joe sends his handsome Italian son, 17-year-old Vito Perugino (Scott Marlowe), to fix it. When Vito arrives at the apartment, he is seduced by Iris with the help of a little liquor and the two begin an affair. Impressionable Vito then proceeds to falls deeply in love, but all the while remains oblivious to Iris's profession, believing she is an actress or model. Unfortunately, Iris's secret is revealed when she accepts a stripping gig that Vito is persuaded to attend by a streetwise friend.
