A History of Violence is a gritty, engrossing film from acclaimed Canadian director David Cronenberg. Tom Stall (Viggo Mortensen) is an average American family man, the owner of Millbrook, Indiana's local diner. Tom is abruptly thrust into the spotlight when he shoots and kills two men who were terrorizing his staff and customers during a robbery. After the story is picked up by the national media, Tom's idyllic life is further interrupted when a mysterious man appears in town. Carl Fogarty (Ed Harris) is convinced Tom is lying about his identity. In fact, Carl is quite sure that Tom is actually Joey Cusack, a vicious killer who ran with the Irish Mob in Philadelphia. Tom denies these claims and reassures his wife, Edie (Maria Bello), that everything is fine. Carl isn't finished with Tom, though, and shows up at Tom's house with a car full of thugs and Joe's son, Jack (Aston Holmes), as a hostage. The family man once again shows incredible skills with a gun when he shoots and kills the men holding his son. Tom's precision shooting even has Edie questioning the truth. Who is Tom Stall?moreless
