A Lawyer Walks Into a Bar is a political documentary directed by Eric Chaikin that centers on trials of six hopeful lawyers as they study and prepare for the California State Bar Exam, which is considered to have the lowest national pass rate. It explores the law obsession and fixation the American culture has on becoming a lawyer as it shares what the six, including an ex-marine and working father who has taken and failed his previous forty-one exams and a girl finishing up her law degree in the hopes of becoming an advocate for the Hispanic community, do as they take part in karaoke, late night study sessions, and delve into the laws on murder in an attempt to become one of the million US lawyers. While also showing the struggling wanna-be lawyers, Chaikin interviews the legal bright idols of the law, including O.J. Simpson’s lawyer Robert Shapiro, CNN’s Nancy Grace, Court TV’s Catherine Crier, U.S. Senator John Comyn, and Texas trial lawyers Joe Jamail and Mark Lanier. A Lawyer Walks Into a Bar is a comical approach to just what a person has to go through in order to work within the judicial system today.moreless
