A Moon for the Misbegotten is a 1975 drama based on the play of the same name. In the story, a landowner and his renters end up in a cycle of betrayal and mistrust. James Tyrone, Jr. (Jason Robards) owns a dilapidated home in 1923 Connecticut. Phil Hogan (Ed Flanders) is a tenant farmer who rents from Tyrone, along with his domineering Irish daughter, Josie (Colleen Dewhurst). When Phil's third son finally leaves the farm and moves away, the home is suddenly more quiet than it used to be. James and Phil end up drinking together one night, as they often do. In a drunken stupor, James jokes that he's going to finally evict Phil and sell the house. Phil fears the loss of his livelihood, and rather than facing a potential life of poverty in his old age, he hatches a plan to leverage his daughter's affections against James. The plot is unscrupulous and may give birth to worse results than Phil could have imagined.moreless
