A Rage in Harlem is a 1991 American film directed by Bill Duke and starring Forest Whitaker, Gregory Hines, Robin Givens, Zakes Mokae, and Danny Glover. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Chester Himes. Jackson (Whitaker) works at a Harlem funeral parlor and rarely breaks the rules. When Imabelle (Givens) shows up in town with a case of stolen gold. Imabelle has no clue as to the danger she is in, with mobsters close on her tail. The men who sent her show up in town and Jackson must then find a way to her help out of the sticky situation. Having never been involved in any sort of illicit activities before, Jackson struggles to maintain composure. Despite earning a nomination for the Palme d'Or at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival, Rage in Harlem received poor reviews from critics.
