This movie is based on the novel by Madeline L'Engle. During the summer, while up at her grandfather's house, fifteen-year-old Vicky Austin finds that her grandfather is dying of leukemia. As her grandfather slowly deteriorates, she is comforted by several newly made friends and a group of dolphins she is doing research on. While studying these dolphins, she discovers she can actually communicate with them. However, the dolphins slowly begin to disappear, only to be found dead on the shore days later. Now Vicky must use her ability to communicate with the dolphins to save their lives.
