A Room with a View: Special Edition is an enhanced version of the 1986 adaptation of E.M. Foster's novel directed by James Ivory. At the beginning of a new century, Lucy Honeychurch (Helena Bonham-Carter) is vacationing in England with her older cousin and chaperone Charlotte Barlett (Maggie Smith). While both proper English ladies, the two women are a clash of personalities: Lucy being more extroverted in manner and speech whereas Charlotte is repressed and restrictive. As their holiday proceeds, the tension between the two women slowly builds, especially considering both women are 'fish out of water' in the free-spirited Italian setting. The women are introduced to new people and exotic personalities presenting new ideals and perspectives in stark contrast with their strict Victorian upbringing. While initially as shocked as her older cousin, as Lucy matures in mind and body, she finds herself drawn to the passionate philosopher George (Julian Sands), who challenges Lucy to greater express and explore her feelings and nature. However Charlotte intends to subdue and curtail Lucy's growing passions, even at the price of Lucy's heartbreak. As the conflict of ages and idealism continues across continents, it is Lucy who must decide what future and path to follow.moreless
