A Secret is a 2007 French war drama written and directed by Claude Miller. The film is based on the novel of the same name written by Philippe Grimbert. In 1953 a young French boy, Fran''ois (various actors depending on character age) is aloof from his father and struggling to find is identity. He notices inconsistencies in his family's narrative and begins to suspect his family has a deep secret. Fran''ois' understanding of his and family's history is thrown into disarray when his neighbor Louise (Julie Depardieu) tells him the truth about the past. While Fran''ois was raised Catholic by his Aryan looking parents, the family is really Jewish. Fran''ois then begins a lifetime effort to penetrate the layers of secrecy that protects his past. What he learns changes him forever. The terrible truth about his family's life during the war changes his perception of himself and his father.
