Movie Summary

Frank Pierson (I)
A Star is Born, starring Barbra Streisand, is the 1976 rock musical film about a young singer/songwriter in the entertainment industry who falls in love with a struggling musician (Kris Kristofferson). Written and directed by Frank Pierson, this is the second remake of the 1937 version starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. Esther Hoffman (Streisand) is a struggling musician who befriends fellow musician John Norman Howard (Kristofferson) in a series of coincidental meetings. When John does his best to give Esther a career boost, his efforts prove wildly successful, but unfortunately his own career begins to falter. As it is discovered that John defines himself through his career, the passion that he feels for Esther becomes unsustainable and to his great detriment. The film won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and was nominated for cinematography, sound, and original score. Also starring Gary Busey, Olivier Clark, and Clydie King, this version of A Star is Born was the most financially successful.moreless
