A Talent For Loving is an odd blend of Western and bawdy comedy made in 1969. Major Patten (Richard Widmark) is a gambler who wins the deed to a Mexican ranch from an outlaw calling himself General Molina (Topol). Upon arriving at his new property, the Major becomes pals with the foreman who also goes by the name General Molina (Cesar Romero). Soon the Major learns of the family curse: during the conquistador era, the ancestors of General Molina fooled around with some Aztec woman and so Montezuma placed a curse on the family. The woman will become hopelessly excited by their first romantic encounter. General Molina seeks to rescue his daughter from any shameful degradation such arousal might produce by marrying her off to the Major. This curse is the talent the title alludes to. Hijinks ensue as the Major discovers first hand just how excitable the General and his kin can get. Spain serves as a substitute for Mexico in this movie. It provides a nice backdrop for this unusual film.
