A Time to Kill is a 1996 film based on a book by the same name. The film is directed by Joel Schumacher and is set in the rural community of Canton, Mississippi. The movie begins with two white supremacists James (Doug Hutchinson) and Billy (Nikki Hatt) badly beating and raping a 10-year-old black girl named Tonya (Rae'Ven Larrymore Kelly). After a failed attempt to hang Tonya, the two men dump her body by a river, leaving her for dead. She survives the attacks and names the two men as her attackers. They are arrested and must await trial. Carl Lee (Samuel L. Jackson), Tonya's father seeks the help of attorney Jake Brigance (Matthew McConaughey), fearing the men will walk free due to racism in Mississippi. Before the men can reach trial, Carl Lee opens fire in the courthouse, killing them both. Carl Lee is arrested and is put on trial. Will the jury find him guilty or innocent? Watch A Time to Kill to find out.
