A Touch of Larceny is a 1959 British comedy film directed by Guy Hamilton based on Andrew Garve's novel. It follows the story of Commander Max Easton (James Mason), a retired submarine officer. He finds his desk job in the Admiralty boring and not challenging enough for him. In his search for excitement and danger, he meets American woman Virginia Killain (Vera Miles) and falls in love with her. Easton decides he needs to become rich to achieve a higher position in the society. He also wants to steal Virginia from her fiance, Sir Charles Holland (George Sanders). The plan is to mysteriously disappear in circumstances that would leave the impression that he has defected. Easton expects the newspapers to start writing negative stories about him, when he is to return and sue them for libel. Soon he realizes that things don't turn out as expected. Will he succeed in conquering the woman's heart using this awkward plan? The comedy was nominated for the BAFTA film award for Best British Screenplay.moreless
