A Walk In the Sun is a 1945 American film that tells the story of fifty-three American soldiers in their deployment to southern Italy during World War II. When Lieutenant Rand is wounded by a shell fragment to his face, the stakes become higher and the men become noticeably more nervous. Platoon Sergeant Pete Halverson then takes over and tells the men to storm the beach. After surviving hours of machine gun fire on the beach, the men retreat to the woods. Medic McWilliams then discovers that more of his men that he expected have been shot. After the men regroup they must then attempt the mission, which is to blow up a bridge near a farmhouse. It is a six-mile trek for the men, and along the way they encounter the enemy line and struggle to understand the nature of war. Starring Dana Andrews, Richard Conte, George Tyne, John Ireland, Lloyd Bridges, Sterling Holloway, Norman Lloyd, Herbert Rudley, and Richard Benedict, A Walk in the Sun was directed by Lewis Milestone.moreless
