Abbott & Costello in the Foreign Legion

Movie Summary

Director:
Charles Lamont
Released:
1950
Rating:

Abbott & Costello in the Foreign Legion follows two pro wrestling promoters, Bud Jones (Bud Abbot) and Lou Hotchkiss (Lou Costello), as they try to retrieve their star competitor from Algiers, the capital of Algeria. This paramount wrestler, Abdullah (Wee Willlie Davis), has returned to his home country after refusing to throw a fight in order to win money. Before Bud and Lou can carry out this task, however, they are bamboozled into joining the Foreign Legion. Now they must prove the guilt of a traitor within the ranks as they narrowly avoid death several times in their escapades in the Foreign Legion. This comedy aptly displays the comedic genius of Abbot & Costello, who had been a comedic team for over a decade when this film was produced in 1950. Other cast and characters of this satirical allegory include Sheik Hamud El Khalid (Douglass Dumbrille), Frankie the Loan Shark (Marc Lawrence) and Nicole Dupre (Patricia Medina).
