Abhijan is a 150 minute Bengali film directed by Satyajit Ray, an Indian filmmaker. It tells the story of Narsingh (Soumitra Chatterjee), an arrogant and quick-tempered taxi driver who is also a member of a royal Rajput family. His only passion in life is his Rajput heritage, a vintage 1930 Chrysler. Narsingh is unable to accept insults and defeat. He also has an intense hatred for women after his wife left him for good during an hour of need. His world that revolved around the cab comes crushing down when his license is revoked during an incident of reckless driving, while trying to overtake a car that was carrying the district inspector. He feels deeply insulted by the incident, and he decides to go back to the land of Rajput. While on his way home, Narasingh is picked up by Sukharam (Charuprakash Ghosh) who is involved in an illegal business of smuggling and trafficking village girls.
