His feelings quickly change when he meets and falls in love with a young village girl, Uma (Jaya Bhaduri), who is also a singer. Although Subir sings for the fame and admiration of his fans, Uma simply sings for herself. After Subir takes Uma back to his homeland of Mumbai, he vows that they will only sing as a couple. After she is encouraged to sing solo, her career begins to take off and Subir's abruptly stalls. Now that Uma's career and popularity is at its peak, Subir must deal with his wounded pride and jealousy. With his marriage in jeopardy, Subir is faced with the choice of either putting his pride aside or losing Uma.
