Abilene Town is a romantic western that was directed in 1946 by Edwin L. Martin and produced by Guild Productions Inc. The movie is set after the Civil War in a small town in Kansas, Abilene where an intense battle taking place between the homesteaders and the cattlemen. They seem to have achieved an unholy alliance however this truce is quickly put aside when a group of homesteaders place their stakes on the cattlemen's side of town. This leads to a fully fledged war between the farmers who wish that the land were tamed and the cowboys who just want the cattle to roam freely and the prairies to be left alone. The story revolves around Sheriff Dan Mitchell (Randolph Scott), who attempts to be the peacemaker in a bid to save the town he loves from complete annihilation. The Sheriff must struggle between his romance with Sherry Balder (Rhonda Fleming) and doing his duties as sheriff as the conflict intensifies.moreless
