PG-13
About a Boy, based on a novel by Nick Hornby, is a story about Will Freeman (Hugh Grant), a self-absorbed 38-year-old, who learns lessons on how to be an adult from 12-year-old Marcus (Nicholas Hoult). Marcus lives with his depressed single mother, and he tries everything, no matter the cost to himself, to make her happy. He possesses self-knowledge beyond his years and is different from the other kids, making him the target of bullies. Will has always lived off his father's residual song writing royalties and never worked a day in his life. He decides to pretend to be a single parent in hopes of hooking up with women. He meets Marcus at a family picnic event for single parents, but when he drives Marcus home, they discover that Marcus' mother, Fiona, has attempted suicide by overdose. Marcus takes advantage of the opportunity to manipulate Will into dating his mother in the hopes that this will cure her depression. As their relationship develops, both Marcus and Will learn to act their age.moreless
