Accattone is a 1961 Italian drama film that centers around Vittorio "Accattone" Cataldi (Franco Citti). Accattone is a pimp, who lives a happy life, spending most of his days playing cards and most of his nights finding clients for his prostitute. One day his prostitute, Maddalena (Silvana Corsini), is badly beaten and left for dead. She is picked up by the police and arrested. Without Maddalena, Accattone is broke, hungry and desperate. He sells all of his jewelry and tried to get back with this estranged wife, to no avail. His luck changes when he meets the innocent, but beautiful Stella (Franca Pasut). Accattone is almost immediately smitten with Stella, even vowing to get a legitimate job. This does not work well because he is not used to working. Eventually, Stella has no choice but to get a job herself, whether that be legitimate or not. As much as Accattone tries to change his life, parts of his past come back to haunt him.moreless
