Accident is a chilling 1967 drama which centers around a doomed love triangle between a college professor, a younger woman and her fiance. The film is an adaptation of a book written in 1965 by Nicholas Mosley. Harold Pinter (The Birthday Party, The Caretaker, The Homecoming), a noteworthy English playwright and friend of director Joseph Losey (The Servant, The Go-Between), adapted the novel to screen. Stephen (Dirk Bogarde) is an esteemed Oxford professor facing somewhat of a mid-life crisis. In such a vulnerable state, and having most likely fallen out of love with his wife, Stephen falls for a younger woman named Anna (Jacqueline Sassard). However, Anna is also engaged to a man named William (Michael York) who happens to be one of Stephen's students. And so begins a disastrous web of lies, betrayal, lust and love. The film won critical acclaim around the globe during its release in 1967, which earned it the Grand Prix award at the Cannes Film Festival that year.
