Across The Moon is a story about two women, Carmen (Elizabeth Pena) and Kathy (Christina Applegate). Kathy, a tight-laced woman, comes from a wealthy family background in Beverly Hills. Carmen, a single mother from the East Side barrio, is a working class woman of Latin-American origin. Their lives are intertwined when both of their boyfriends, Lyle (Peter Berg) and Richie (Tony Dean Fields), engage in a confidence scheme and are caught. They are then sentenced to a long jail term at a state prison in Mojave desert, California. Kathy and Carmen want to show their boyfriends their love and support in spite of the unfortunate circumstances. They team up, get into Kathy's convertible, and head for the desert. They are forced to share living quarters with Carmen's young son in a creaky trailer located deep in the desert. The two women are pushed to come to terms with unruly cowboys and gold-hungry prospectors as they begin a new phase in their lives.moreless
