Across the Tracks is a 1991 independent film drama directed by Sandy Tung. The film follows Joe Maloney (Brad Pitt) in his pursuit to win a track scholarship to Stanford. When Joe's brother Billy Maloney (Rick Schroder) is released from reform school after serving time for a failed car robbery, the two begin a rivalry that pits them against each other for the county championship. Joe gradually gains respect for his brother's running ability and buys him a pair of high-performance running shoes as a token of his respect. Eventually, Billy's previous life of drugs and crime catches up with him when his former delinquent friends try to get even with him for leaving them behind. With a scholarship in the balance, the two brothers must struggle to achieve their goals while trying to keep their relationship intact.
