Adam and Evalyne is the 1949 romantic comedy film which follows a romance between a ward and the orphaned daughter he looked after. Adam Black, played by Stewart Granger, is a professional gambler who is best friends with jockey Chris Kirby (Fred Johnson). When Kirby is fatally injured in a horse racing accident, he leaves behind an orphaned teenage daughter, Evalyne. Black makes a promise to take care of Evalyne, who has been raised away from her father. Evalyne has been lead to believe that Adam is her father, and he becomes unable to tell her the truth. Adam's girlfriend Moira (Helen Cherry) finally breaks the news to Evalyne, who is then sent off to a boarding school. When she later comes back into his life as a refined young woman, Adam struggles with his romantic feelings for her, his gambling ways, and his current girlfriend.
