Movie Summary

Atom Egoyan
Adoration is a feature film about a young boy that creates a false identity for himself in the hypothesis that his father was a terrorist. Simon's (Devon Bostick) family past is as cloudy as they come, raised by his uncle Tom (Scott Speedman) after his parents were killed in a car accident. As part of a translation exercise in French class, Simon's teacher Sabine (Arsin'e Khanjian) tells a story of a thwarted terrorist attack in which a bomb was planted in a pregnant woman's bag by her husband. Simon, understandably curious about his own past, begins to imagine that he was the unborn child in the story, that his father was the terrorist, planning to blow up an airplane. Sabine persuades him to and rewrite and recite to the school the story from this point of view, and it begins to take on a life of its own. On message boards and throughout student rumblings, Simon's innocent imaginings gain and lose credence, and his family past is shrouded in even more mystery, until a revelation that sheds light on who he really is. Academy Award winner Atom Egoyan writes and directs this unconventional tale that will have you questioning what is real and false, and what is right and wrong.moreless
