Adventures of Don Juan is a 1948 Oscar-winning film directed by Vincent Sherman starring Errol Flynn, Viveca Lindfors, and Robert Douglas. The Academy Award is for Best Costume Design, Color, and the costumes are simply magnificent. Don Juan de Mara''a (Errol Flynn) spends his free time romancing young women and running from their angry husbands. After he meets the beautiful Queen Margaret (Viveca Lindfors), Don Juan tries to reform his reputation. Queen Margaret is in a loveless arranged marriage to the weak mannered King Phillip III (Romney Brent). Don Juan secretly falls in love with Queen Margaret. However, Don Juan and Queen Margaret keep up a platonic relationship. Don Juan has the queen's favor, and she appoints him to be an instructor in the fencing arts at the Spanish Academy. While at court, Don Juan over hears of a plot, lead by Duke de Lorca (Robert Douglas), to overthrow the monarch and start a war with England. Don Juan, along with other loyal followers of the queen, must find a way to end this treacherous plot.moreless
