After Midnight is a horror-thriller that shows what happens when a college professor takes things too far. At a university in the small town of Glendale, Professor Derek (Ramy Zeda) begins his class, The Psychology of Fear. Most of his students are serious researchers, except for goofy frat boy, Ron (Kent Burden). After taking some sarcastic comments, Professor Derek invites Ron to the head of the class and tells him a scary story in his ear. Ron wets himself in front of everybody and complains to the dean of the department, who reprimands the Professor. Derek then invites his students to his home for some extra credit work. Allison (Jillian McWhirter) and Cheryl (Pamela Segall) accept the invitation, and after arriving, they learn that the professor has planned a night of horror story telling. The classmates must create three stories, which the film plays out. At the end of the night, a vengeful Ron breaks into Professor Derek's house to get even. Things start to change after the professor falls into Ron's trap, hinting to his students that maybe their teacher's horror stories are actually true.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 60

The New York Times Stephen Holden

Diverting and often charming, but it never really holds together.

  • 60

    Variety

Ferrario has fun with antique footage and exhibits from the museum, but there's a lack of urgency or sufficient charm to engage.

  • 50

    Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas

It has a droll sensibility but is marred by dirge-like pacing and is seriously under-lighted -- so much so that it's all but impossible to get a good look at its principal setting.
