Air Bud is a 1997 dramatic family comedy directed by Charles Martin Smith. In the film, Josh Framm (Kevin Zegers) is a 12-year-old boy who has just moved to Fernfield, Washington, with his mom, Jackie (Wendy Makkena), and little sister, Andrea (Kati Mather, Jesebel Mather). The family has chosen to move to Fernfield after the tragic death of their father. Josh is out-of-sorts in his new town. He doesn't make friends easily, and his shyness inhibits him from trying out for the school's middle school basketball game. While playing in an abandoned basketball court, Josh meets a Golden Retriever named Buddy. Buddy is an adorable stray who has recently run away from his abusive owner, Norm Snively (Michael Jeter). Josh begs his mom until she agrees to temporarily keep Buddy. The relationship between Buddy and Josh gives the young boy the confidence he needs to try out for the basketball team.
