Air Force is an American war film, directed by Howard Hawks. It follows the flights of a United States Air Force B-17 bomber, the Mary-Ann. Her crew take off from San Francisco on a routine flight to Pearl Harbor. Their flight is uneventful, but they arrive right at the start of the Japanese attack. The crew is made up of Pilot "Irish" Quinncannon (John Rigley), co-pilot Bill Williams (Gig Young), gunner Sgt. Winocki (John Garfield) and Sgt. Robby White (Harry Carey), the Marry-Ann's crew chief. Together, they fight to escape the Japanese attack and find cover on Wake Island. They are then sent to Clark Field, where the remnants of Pearl Harbor's airforce regroup to figure out their next plan of action against the Japanese invaders. The only answer seems to be a daring mission, flown by single-man craft. Few are willing to volunteer, but an urgent communique serves to put all the men into action.
