Airport '77 is the third installment of the Airport disaster series, this time involving a plot to nab some artwork on a private 747 flight. Wealthy airline mogul Philip Stevens (James Stewart) wants to open his house as an aviation museum, so he invites guests to travel to his home on his personal 747. Also on board is a valuable collection of artwork. The plane is piloted by Dan Gallagher (Jack Lemmon), and his girlfriend, Eve Clayton (Brenda Vaccaro), an employee of Stevens. Other guests include a little old lady, Emily Livingston (Olivia De Havilland), comically behaving inappropriately, Dr. Wallace (Christopher Lee), working on a cure for world hunger and a host of others, played by an all-star cast. Meanwhile, a gang of thieves are plotting to steal the valuable art by diverting the flight to a Bermuda Triangle island where they plan to unload it. When the plane hits an oil rig and crashes into the Atlantic, it is a race against the clock to save the survivors as they sit on the bottom of the sea floor.
