Alex and Emma is a tale about story-telling from director Rob Reiner, a romantic comedy in which an author is getting paid by the word to save his own neck. Alex Sheldon (Luke Wilson) is an author and gambling addict who has debts that are too big to write off. He's got one month to finish a novel and receive an advance from the publisher to repay some loan sharks who will otherwise collect their fees in blood. He hires Emma Dinsmore (Kate Hudson) to take dictation so he can generate the book faster. It seems like a brilliant way to speed things up, until he realizes that Emma has more opinions than he has time for. The clock is ticking down while Emma offers commentary on the romantic story that he's trying to tell. However, her thoughts begin to alter the story Alex is writing and the story Alex is living.
