Alexandra's Project is about a man who thinks he has it all. Steve (Gary Sweet) has a beautiful wife, loving kids, and things are pretty good on the work front, too: he's just received a promotion. But when he gets home after work on his birthday, he's in for a shock. His wife, Alexandra (Helen Buday), has something planned, but it's not what he expected. There's nobody home to greet him, just a videotape with the words "Play Me". Soon Steve is watching Alexandra do a sexy striptease, just for him. But she's got other things in mind, and the tape shows Steve a side of his wife he's never imagined: a side that's got years of resentment stored up against Steve, and is looking for payback. Steve is about to see things on that videotape that no husband can bear to see, and his life is about to get very messy.

Metacritic Score

  • 70

    Variety David Stratton

The punishment seems out of all proportion to the "crimes" committed, so that the film becomes no simplistic pro-feminist tract but is, on the contrary, more complex and disturbing.

  • 60

    The Hollywood Reporter Kirk Honeycutt

Macpherson keep things creepy and mystifying. But that damn videotape takes the edge off the mood both visually and dramatically.

  • 25

    San Francisco Chronicle

But the film suffers from a major and unforgivable flaw, one that grows more implausible and ridiculous over time.
