Alfred Hitchcock's Stage Fright is a 1950 murder mystery from the master of suspense. Jonathan Cooper (Richard Todd) and Charlotte Inwood (Marlene Dietrich) are carrying on a discreet affair until Charlotte's husband turns up dead. The police, who uncover the secret affair, make Jonathan their lead suspect. Jonathan goes on the run, insisting on his innocence. His friend, Eve Gill (Sybil Thorndike), takes him in and believes his claims, and then she sets out to investigate the murder herself. However, as she explores the case, she meets Detective Wilfred Smith (Michael Wilding), with whom she feels an immediate affinity. Now Eve is torn between the man she is trying to protect and his pursuer, a man with whom she finds herself falling in love. The walls start to close in on Jonathan as the police become aware of the meddling of the amateur sleuth and wonder what vested interest she has in the case. There is very little time left and no apparent means by which he can prove his innocence.moreless
