This musical rendition of the classic story of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carol, is part of PBS's (Public Broadcasting Service) Great Performances series. It first aired in 1983 and features some of the finest stage actors of the day, including a young Nathan Lane as the Dormouse, Richard Burton as the White Knight, and his daughter Kate Burton as Alice. The performance is set on a theatrical stage with characters and backgrounds in the likeness of sketches from a notebook. While skipping parts of the story such as the tumbling down the rabbit hole, it enhances the story with original musical numbers. This is the story of Alice who on a golden afternoon follows a rabbit down a rabbit hole and finds herself in Wonderland: a place where nonsense rules and everyone is mad. In this world she comes across a Cheshire Cat (Geoffrey Holder), a March Hare (Zeljko Ivanek), a Hookah Smoking Caterpillar (Fritz Weaver) and many other curious creatures.moreless
