Alien is a 1979 science-fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott. Warrant Officer Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is a crew member aboard Nostromo, a commercial towing ship. Along with her fellow crew members, Ripley is woken from stasis earlier than they expected. The ship has detected a planetoid nearby, and Captain Dallas (Tom Skerritt) decides to investigate strange transmissions. Once on the planetoid, Dallas and two crew members, Kane (John Hurt) and Lambert (Veronica Cartwright), discover an alien spacecraft that has clearly been empty for some time. At first appearance, the ominous ship holds no signs of life, only the skeletal remains of aliens who seem to have died violently. Just as Ripley begins to realize that the transmissions contained a warning, her crew members stumble across a room filled with large eggs. Before they can figure out what to do next, Kane is attacked by a strange and ferocious creature. Against Ripley's better judgment, Captain Dallas and the rest return to Nostromo, but the horror is only beginning. As her crew members are relentlessly picked off around her, Ripley struggles against the destructive force that they have accidentally awoken.moreless
