Almost Heroes is a slapstick comedy starring Chris Farley (Saturday Night Live) and Matthew Perry (Friends) as Old West explorers trying to make their way to the Pacific Ocean. When the aspiring explorer Leslie Edwards (Matthew Perry) hears that Lewis & Clark have received a commission to lead a scientific expedition across the country, he petulantly wants to beat them to the West Coast. He hires the drunk and disorderly Bartholomew Hunt (Chris Farley) to be his frontier guide. They hire a motley party including Frenchman Guy Fontenot (Eugene Levy), who joins the expedition with his Indian wife, Shaquinna (Lisa Barbuscia). Fontenot quickly proves himself to be a liability with constant threats to kill anyone who looks at his wife. As this misfit crew tries to make their way through the wilderness, they find themselves fighting with bears, eagles and saloon keepers as they try to keep pace with their more famous rivals. Christopher Guest (Waiting for Guffman) directs this 1998 comedy.moreless
