Amadeus is a 1974 biopic about the lives of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri, famous composers living in Vienna in the latter half of the 18th century. Mostly taking place in a flashback, the story is told through Salieri's eyes, as he sits in an insane asylum. The rivalry between the two musicians becomes too intense for Salieri, and eventually he goes mad with jealousy. Salieri believes that God is laughing at him by endowing Mozart with musical genius far greater than that of his own. Salieri plots to kill Mozart and commissions him to compose a requiem, which unbeknownst to Mozart will be used at his own funeral. When Salieri finally accepts Mozart's brilliance, it is too late for the composer, as Mozart collapses from exhaustion during the premier of the famed The Magic Flute. Amadeus was directed by Milos Forman and is one of the most acclaimed films of all time. The film was nominated for 53 awards and received eight Academy Awards, including Best Actor, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Director.moreless
