Amar Akbar Anthony is a 1977 award-winning Bollywood film directed by Manmohan Desai. A chauffeur named Kishanlal (Pran) agrees to confess to a crime that his boss Robert (Jeevan), a mobster, had committed. Robert promises that his family would be provided for, but after serving his time Kishanlal finds his family starving. Infuriated, he turns on Robert and tries to kill him, but his attempt fails and he is forced to flee from the mob. After returning home and finding his wife's suicide note, Kishanlal leaves his sons at the foot of a statue of Gandhi in a park, thus guaranteeing their safety. He returns later to find the boys gone. The story follows each of the three boys who grow up in completely different environments. A Hindu policemen adopts one of the boys and names him Amar (Vinod Khanna), a Muslim tailor adopts the second, naming him Akbar (Rishi Kapoor), and the third boy is adopted by a Catholic priest and is christened Anthony (Amitabh Bachchan).
