Ambush Trail is a classic western that tells the story of cowpoke Curley Thompson (Bob Steele). Curley purchases a ranch in the town of Douglas and is surprised to learn that his inherited foreman Sam Hawkins (perennial movie sagebrush sidekick Syd Saylor) cannot even ride a horse. Hawkins provides the film's comic relief as the plot focuses on an evil freight owner named Hatch Bolton ( I. Stanford Jolley). Bolton is boss of the town and is determined to force the local ranchers off their land so that he can sell it to a Chicago grain company. After the town's sheriff is ambushed by Hatch Bolton's dastardly henchmen, Curley steps up to fight against the evildoers and save the small town. Curley is framed for murder and even put in jail, but he never gives up his crusade against Bolton. The bad guys don't stand a chance against a classic western hero like Curley Thompson. The film's screenplay was written by D.W. Griffith alumnus Elmer Clifton and is loaded with action.
