Amelia is a 2009 biopic of Amelia Earhart - the woman who attempted to fly around the world in an airplane. Academy award winner Hilary Swank delivers an amazing performance as Earhart. Richard Gere plays her husband, George P. Putnam. Amelia (Hilary Swank) was an adventurous woman from the beginning. After flying over the Atlantic, she quickly adopted a reputation as a "goddess of light". She was intrepid, and lived every minute of life to its fullest potential. The film depicts Earhart as an inspiring character to all those she encountered - from Eleanor Roosevelt (Cherry Jones), to her very own husband, public relations mogul George P. Putnam (Richard Gere), and lastly, her friend and co-pilot Gene Vidal (Ewan McGregor). At the end of the movie, Earhart sets out on a mission to travel the world - a feat no one else has been able to accomplish. You are bound to be fascinated and intrigued by the biography of Amelia Earhart. Be sure to watch!

So a pioneering feminist in the hands of a feminist filmmaker should have been a perfect match. But like her subject, the filmmaker gets lost in the clouds.

What rankles most about Amelia is the timidity and lack of imagination with which Nair approaches one of America's most exceptional and intriguing celebrity life stories.

Alas, excesses of any pleasurable kind are absent from this exasperatingly dull production.
