Amelie is a 2001 romantic comedy about a young woman who seeks to change the lives of those who live around her. Amelie Poulain (Audrey Tautou) is a waitress at a small caf'' in the Montmartre neighborhood in Paris. Despite being quite beautiful, she makes no effort to have a romantic life of her own, preferring instead to help the collection of eccentrics who frequent her caf''. One of the first people she helps is her neighbor, Raymond Dufayel (Serge Merlin), a painter who constantly paints the same painting over and over again. One day, while Amelie is visiting, he strikes up a conversation about a painting with her. As the discussion proceeds, it becomes clear that despite his affection for Amelie, he worries about her lonely and isolated life.
