America Brown is a coming of age drama in which the lives of a Texas football star, a New York priest and the women they love cross. America "Ricky" Brown (Ryan Kwanten) grew up in West Texas and knows little other than football, women, and patriotism. However, Ricky comes to hate football. Raised by a single mother, Marianne (Karen Black), his older brother Dan (Michael Rapaport) has taken the place of a father to him. Dan insists that his only future is in football. Meanwhile, his coach, Bo Williams (Leo Burmester), shows him the manipulative underside of football, which makes him hate it all the more. He leaves his home behind to go venturing to New York City, looking for John Cross (Hill Harper), a former Texas football great turned Catholic priest. However, the priest has questions about his own calling, inspired in part by a secret love life. Training camp is approaching. Ricky is still searching for an identity, and an angry coach is hot on his trail.moreless
