American Guerrilla in the Philippines is a 1950 war film about the resistance efforts in the Philippines following the island's surrender to the Japanese in the spring of 1942. Ensign Chuck Palmer (Tyrone Power) and navy man Jim Mitchell (Tom Ewell) are left on the island following the Japanese takeover. Unable to escape to Australia because of a monsoon, Palmer and Mitchell set up a clandestine communications network to aid the guerrillas in their resistance efforts, hoping for General Douglas MacArthur to make his promised return. Complicating matters, Palmer falls in love with Jeanne Martinez (Micheline Prelle), the wife of fellow guerilla Juan Martinez (Juan Torena). When her husband is killed by the Japanese for being a spy, Jeanne turns to Palmer for comfort. Will the band of guerrillas be able to hold out until MacArthur's return? American Guerrilla in the Philippines was directed by Fritz Lang and is based on the novel of the same name by Ira Wolfert.
