American Yakuza is a 1993 mafia film starring Viggo Mortensen. Nick Davis (Viggo Mortensen) is an American FBI agent commissioned to infiltrate a dangerous, high-ranking Japanese yakuza group. Davis ingratiates himself with the yakuza group with surprisingly little effort. He establishes himself as a respectable assassin, which earns him a great reputation within the yakuza. He quickly rises to the top and is subsequently inaugurated into the Tendo family - a unit also involved in dirty, criminal business. Davis's bond with the Japanese yakuza is put to the test when the Tendo family is challenged by the Italian mafia, more specifically, a man named Dino Campanela (Michael Nouri) and his second-in-command, Vic (Nicky Katt). Davis suddenly finds himself entangled in a hazy war between the Japanese yakuza and the Italian mafia. FBI agent Littleman (Robert Forster) attempts to abort mission and rescue Davis, but it seems Davis is so engrained in the Tendro family he might be unwilling to leave. American Yakuza is two thumbs up!moreless
