Americana is a 1983 drama film that revolves around a soldier, whose name is never revealed (David Carradine). After being discharged from the Vietnam War, the soldier travels to Drury, Kansas. It is there that he finds an old merry-go-round that he decides to restore. Some of the townspeople are happy about this, while others are not as accepting. A hardware store owner (Arnold Herzstein) and a gas station worker (Michael Greene) are among those who support the soldier's project, volunteering their help and resources. Another supporter is a young woman (Barabra Hershey), who supplies food and a tool box to the workers. Problems arise when some of the townspeople destroy the merry-go-round during the restoration process. The soldier is angered, but is more determined than ever to finish his project. He continues to work on his project, but gets distracted when he learns one of his employees is not who he originally thought. The turns the movie makes will leave viewers shocked.moreless
