Americano is the story of Chris McKinley's (Joshua Jackson) last summer of freedom, between college graduation and entry into the working world. He already has a corporate job lined up that will lead to career success, wealth, complacency, and boredom. At a crossroads, he decides to take the summer off and backpack across Europe with his friend Ryan (Timm Sharp) and Ryan's girlfriend, Michelle (Ruthanna Hopper). While traveling through Spain, they meet a festive crowd celebrating the running of the bulls in Pamplona. Inspired by Hemingway, Chris decides to write about his experience. At this point, he realizes his backpack, containing his passport, money, and credit cards, has been stolen. His symbols of civilization are gone and he runs in despair, focusing on the bloody and gory world of the bullfight. He meets Adela (Leonor Varela), a beautiful young Spanish woman, and Riccardo (Dennis Hopper), an American expatriate and bar owner. With three days left of summer vacation, Chris, Ryan, and Michelle all make decisions about their future lives, some of which alter their plans significantly.moreless
