Amish Grace is based on the actual happenings in an Amish schoolhouse in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on October 2, 2006. A single gunman, Charlie Roberts (John Churchill), took a single-room schoolhouse, full of young girls, hostage, and ended up killing five of them and then turning the gun on himself. Such a senseless and tragic event brought great swarm of national media attention, but what unfolded in the aftermath was almost as shocking. The Amish community of Nickel Mines emphasized the need for forgiveness and reconciliation. Amish Grace tells the story of this way of thinking through the eyes of one central character, Ida Graber (Kimberly Williams-Paisley), who is a grieving mother. Her point of view is echoed throughout the movie by many of the other community members and parents who lost a child, sibling or friend on that fateful day. The "practice what you preach" mantra is fully embraced by the Amish, and the adherence to their core beliefs in the most trying of times is an inspiration.moreless
