Amityville II: The Possession is the second installment in the Amityville Horror franchise. Although the film was made three years after the release of the first film, the story of Amityville II actually predates that in the first film. Italian-American director Damiano Damiani (The Spaghetti West, A Bullet for the General, How to Kill a Judge) directs this 1982 follow-up, which is just as disturbing as the original. The movie centers around the events which led to the haunting of the Amityville house - that is - the family who was murdered before George and Kathleen Lutz moved in. The Montelli's, and all of their children, inhabit the infamous Amityville house on 112 Ocean Avenue. Shortly after moving in, they collectively begin to sense a foreboding presence, but are unable to peg it's source. Sadly, the Montelli's are never able to discover the reasons behind the peculiarities of the house as their eldest son Sonny (Jack Magner) embarks on a killing spree, butchering everyone inside. James Olson, Burt Young, Rutanya Alda, Andrew Prine, Diane Franklin, Moses Gunn and Ted Ross also star. Amityville II is full of gore and 80's themed terror and is a definite must see if you revel in the Amityville horror series.moreless

With their flair for wretched excess, Damiani and screenwriter Tommy Lee Wallace make it hard to bear Amityville II in good humor. [28 Sep 1982, p.D6]
