An Affair to Remember reminds people that not even a terrible accident can separate true love. This 1957 romance drama stars Cary Grant as Nickie Ferrante, a playboy artist on vacation aboard a transatlantic cruise liner. He meets Terry McKay (Deborah Kerr) on the ship's deck and they form a friendship. By the time they arrive in New York, the couple is in love. The only problem is that both are in relationships. Nickie and Terry agree to meet each other on the top of the Empire State Building after six months, only if they have ended their relationships. Nickie is the first to arrive. Terry, excited to see her love again, doesn't see an oncoming bus as she crosses the street. An ambulance rushes her to the hospital where Terry learns that she's paralyzed. Nickie leaves thinking that Terry has found someone else. Sad and distraught, Nickie paints a portrait portraying his feelings for her, which he gives to an odd woman in a wheelchair who admires it. Later, Nickie sees Terry with her ex-boyfriend at the ballet. He discovers her address and goes to her house for a surprise visit. Viewers then find out what happens after Nickie sees his painting on her wall.moreless
